Last January an inferno engulfed Inner Gardens, Los Angeles’s beloved resource for plants, trees, vintage garden furniture, planters, and glorious landscape ornaments. Happily, a verdant phoenix has risen from those ashes, and Inner Gardens is back in business at a new location in the burgeoning Culver City Arts District.
Nestled among many of the city’s best contemporary art galleries—Blum & Poe, Honor Fraser, Roberts & Tilton, Walter Maciel, and others—the reincarnated Inner Gardens occupies a 20,000-square-foot space rife with opportunities for dramatic horticultural displays. Owner Stephen Block, who founded the full-service garden design wonderland in 1990, has stocked the premises with an array of exotic plant specimens, turn-of-the-20th-century terra-cotta vessels from Greece and Turkey, and midcentury treasures by the likes of David Cressey and Stan Bitters.
A favorite among local interior designers, Inner Gardens was last featured in the pages of Architectural Digest in our November 2014 story on the renovation of actress Ellen Pompeo’s dreamy Los Feliz villa.
